Driver Age and Criteria To Rent A Vehicle

DRIVERS AGE AND CRITERIA

DRIVERS WITH A UK DRIVING LICENCE

You the driver(s) must be:

• between the ages of 25 - 70 years
• A regular driver with a minimum of 2 years driving experience on a full valid driving licence
• in good health, any medical conditions must be disclosed prior to booking.  An insurance clearance may be required.
• can produce all the driver documents (ID) upon collection

DRIVERS WITH A NON UK DRIVING LICENCE

You the driver(s) must be:

• between the ages of 25 - 70 years
• A regular driver with 3 years driving experience on a full driving licence
• in good health, any medical conditions must disclosed prior to booking.  An insurance clearance my be required. 
• can produce all the driver documents (ID) upon collection

VALID POINTS / ENDORSEMENT/ CONVICTIONS 

We can, but are restricted and limited to which points, endorsements, convictions we can accept and insure.  Please contact us if you have any points, endorsements, convictions on your driving licence. Minor endorsements within the last 5 years, more serious offences, disqualification (ban) within the last 11 years, please contact us in advance for a driver insurance clearance.

ACCIDENTS OR INSURANCE CLAIMS DRIVERS HISTORY - fault and non-fault

If a driver has had any fault, non fault accidents and/or claims in the last 3 years, please contact us for a driver clearence. Restrictions and limitations apply.

ADDITIONAL DRIVERS

All drivers must attend West's rental office at Wests Ind. Park, Todd Close, Rainham, Essex, RM13 9XX to be added on to the rental agreement and vehicle insurance.

Additional drivers can be insured for an additional daily charge for the rental agreement duration. 

A full driving licence and identification are required from each and every driver.

No one is allowed to drive the rental vehicle unless they have been added to the vehicle’s rental agreement and insurance and have written consent from us the ‘lessor’ to drive the rental vehicle.

Minibus Hire - Driver Criteria

UK DRIVERS AGE AND CRITERIA FOR MINIBUS HIRE  

USING THE VEHICLE FOR PERSONAL USE -

IF YOU HAVE A CAR LICENCE - CATEGORY B

If you are using the minibus for personal use,  you might be able to drive up to our 12 minibus  (11 passenger seats) using your current manual car driving licence as long as there’s no payment from or on behalf of the passengers etc.  The main driver must pay for the minibus, fuel etc. 

DRIVERS WITH A 'D1' MANUAL UK DRIVING LICENCE 

If you are using the minibus for personal use,  you might be able to drive up to our 17 minibus  (16 passenger seats) using your current manual D1 driving licence as long as there’s no payment from or on behalf of the passengers etc.  The main driver must pay for the minibus, fuel etc. 

('Hire and reward' is the legal term for payment for providing transport. It's any payment, in cash or kind, which gives a person the right to be carried on a vehicle, regardless of whether that right is exercised. The payment may be made by the passenger or on the passenger's behalf. ’).

Conditions and Criteria Driver's must meet with a UK Driving Licence...

You can drive our mini bus within the UK as long as the following conditions apply (not 'hire and reward')

•  you’re between the age of 25 and 70 
• a regular driver 
• Up to a 12 seat Minibus: you have had your full UK manual B category driving licence for a minimum of 3 years, the maximum gross vehicle weight of the minibus is not more than 3500kg
• Up to a 17 seat Minibus: you must have had your full UK manual B and D1 category driving licence for a minimum of 3 years, 
•  In good health, any medical conditions must be disclosed prior to booking, a driver clearence may be required,
•  you’re driving on a voluntary basis and the minibus is used for social purposes by a non-commercial body/group, 
•  you’re not towing a trailer
• no vehicle accidents or insurance claims in the last 3 years. (see accidents and insurance claims section below for more information)
• no convictions and/or points on your driving licence (see points section below for more information)
• the minibus cannot be taken or driven outside of the mainland UK.

USING THE VEHICLE FOR A COMPANY/GROUP/SCHOOL

DRIVERS WITH A 'D or D1' MANUAL UK DRIVING LICENCE 

You might be able to drive our 17 seat minibus (16 passenger seats) using your current manual D or D1 driving licence as long as it’s not for ‘hire and reward’.

• You the driver(s) must be between the ages of 25 - 70 years
• A regular driver with 3 years driving experience on a full valid UK driving licence
• A manual valid D or D1 driving licence category that has been held for 3 years or more.
• In good health, any medical conditions must be disclosed pror to booking, a driver clearence may be required
• no vehicle accidents or insurance claims in the last 3 years (see accidents and insurance claims section below for more information)
• no convictions and/or points on your driving licence (see points section below for more information)

NON UK DRIVING LICENCES - DRIVERS AGE AND CRITERIA FOR MINIBUS HIRE

Drivers with a Non UK Car Driving Licence:

If you have a non UK car driving licence you may be able to drive up to our 9 seat minibus (8 pessenger  seats) for personal use only. Not for ‘hire and reward’.

Conditions and Criteria the driver(s) must meet...

• You the driver(s) must be between the ages of 25 - 70 years
• A regular driver with 3 years driving experience on a full valid driving licence
• In good health, any medical conditions must be disclosed pror to booking, a driver clearence may be required
• no vehicle accidents or insurance claims in the last 3 years (see accidents and insurance claims section below for more information)
• no convictions and/or points on your driving licence (see points section below for more information)
• a valid international driver permit will also be required (for more information see 'what is needed to rental a vehicle' section.)

Drivers with a Non UK Car & Bus Driving Licence:

If you have a non UK car and bus category driving licence you may be able to drive up to our 17 seat minibus (16 pessenger seats) for personal use only.  Not for ‘hire and reward’.

Conditions and Criteria the driver(s) must meet...

• You the driver(s) must be between the ages of 25 - 70 years
• A regular driver with 3 years driving experience on a full valid manual driving licence
• In good health, any medical conditions must be disclosed pror to booking, a driver clearence may be required
• no vehicle accidents or insurance claims in the last 3 years (see accidents/claims section below for more information)
• no convictions and/or points on your driving licence (see points section below for more information)
• a valid international driver permit with category B and D stamped will also be required (for more information see 'what is needed to rental a vehicle' section.)

All the drivers must be able to produce all the correct and necessary idenitifation documents upon collection
